Ashari[]
The Ashari are a multiracial polyglot of humanoids and demihumans who are attuned to one of the elemental powers of air, water, earth or fire as part of their cultural heritage and legacy. The races among the Ashari are very diverse and varied and including most kins of Dwarf, Elf, Human, Hafling, Tiefling, Jeppri, Orc, Goblin, Loxodon, Minotaur, Troll and Tabaxi to name a few. These populations have intermingled for centuries among the Ashari, with "race" being considered much more of a social construct imposed by outside societies. Families tend to organize themselves by community and lineage, instead drawing on the power of their cultural inheritance for attributes that will aid them in life. So it is not uncommon to find a household where a Half-Orc is married to a Half-Elf, that has adopted a Loxodon child. The Ashari live near places of great elemental power, which have overtime provided them with their powerful cultural inheritance. Gensasi also tend to live among them as members of their tribes, but may maintain themselves as distinct clans.
The Great Cataclysm:[]
The Asari Tribes are distinct, ancient societies that, according to their legends, were formed during a previous age of high magic. There was an apocalyptical magical event known as the Great Cataclysm that destroyed the great empires of the world. The surviving remnant fled as refugees to places of great elemental power, seeking out passage away from the Prime Material Plane to extraplanar safety. Those that assembled by the gates were forced to destroy them in order to save what remained of Arda. These polyglot refugee settlements eventually turned into distinct Ashari Tribes over time, forgetting the details of the Great Cataclyms, the heros and villains that set it off, and the dangers sealed away by it. What they do remember, is that they are accountable for guarding their places of power and preventing the transit of those who seek to cross in either direction. The legend of the Great Cataclysm has similarities to recorded events that took place in the Jadean Union in its war with the Horizon Empire several centuries ago. The Magi War broke out between these two superpowers laying waste to vast tracts of land, now claimed by the Amyran Federation as the Picket and Preserve, as well has left the heartland of the Jadean Union a toxic wasteland poisoned by a magical miasma. Details of this war have been widely forgotten, those records still existing in the Imperial City of Rosen. The legends appear to be connected, but scholars have a difficult time explaining how the Magi War in the Jadean Union heartland connects to the remote and widely dispersed locations the Ashari Tribes call home. There is a similar legend among the Jeppri relating to time when the Celestial Dragons came down from Mount Celestia and scourged the world, creating an earth-rending event like the Great Cataclysm - but scholars have not been able to make a clean connection here either.
